Studio Seco is launching the exhibition space this Friday showcasing selected works from Calendário avulso by collage artist Nina Fraser and writer Paola D’Agostino, and your heart is showing, contemporary photography series by visual artist and photographer Desiree Kong.

I am delighted to invite you to my next solo exhibition 'A Study in Psycho-cybernetics' at Marvilla Art District.
Cybernetics was defined in 1948 by Norbert Wiener as “the science of control and communication, in the animal and the machine” - basically, the theory of messages. As a reaction to an ever rapidly mutating technological world, the work in this series explores communication systems, from internal feedback loops within artistic practice and decision making strategies, to external ones. Observing how the printed image acts as one channel of communication, the analogue practice of collage operates as an inquiry into how this system is structured and interpreted, and how it shapes individual thoughts and actions. Presenting the work of art as a complex dynamic system, Nina demonstrates her artistic strategy through the daily creation of 21 collages, laying out the process open to analysis.

"Calendário Avulso" is an exhibition and accompanying book born from the dialogue between collages by Nina Fraser and texts by Paola D'Agostino. Both images and words rescue instants of multiple, dispersed narratives, which are here composed again among themselves to build a reformulation of time capable of escaping linear logic. "Calendário Avulso” is time in bulk, a collection of moments or epiphanies, which decontextualised take on the possibility of representing each and every day, in an ideal space where the dialogue between various languages alters and enhances the meaning of each exchange.

Showcasing a selection of my 'Autumn leaves' series - a body of work I've been developing since winter 2021, encapsulating traces of foliage collected from the woods close to my family's home in Dorset, UK. The technique of frottage attempts to preserve something already decomposing using a variety of unusual processes - exploring themes of memory and time through an intervention into the natural cycles of decay and regrowth.

Unconnected Yet: An Internation Exhibition in Kolkata, India

Unconnected Yet is an exhibition about the junction between things—creativity that explores a combination of art and science or cross-curricular inquiry. It explores art that points to the gap: things to be connected, something to be spanned, a subject to better understand, an unexperienced phenomenon, an unnamed or unseen thing, something that has not yet occurred, or something unexplainable. Artists were asked to “Imagine the world you want to live in as it yet could be. What would you connect if you could?”

Unconnected Yet assembles the work of 64 collage-based artists from 10 countries via printed facsimiles of the artwork selected. Unconnected Yet links the art and science communities of Boston, Kolkata, and beyond, bringing art from near and far to five galleries at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata, India.

“1” is a group exhibition featuring works by André Almeida e Sousa, Luís Almeida, Constança Arouca & Madalena Parreira, Francisca Carvalho, Nina Fraser, Run Jiang, Le Phi Long, Florian Song Nguyen, Bertrand Peret, Thao Nguyen Phan, Pedro Proença, Quentin Spohn, Truc-Anh and Mai-Loan Tu and celebrating the 1st anniversary of the gallery. The exhibition will open on Friday 21 October 2022 at 6 pm and will run until January 2023.

THE ANXIETY OF INTERDISCIPLINARITY

The Anxiety of Interdisciplinarity is an exhibition which seeks to reframe printmaking as a site of interdisciplinarity - a testing ground for ‘The important work...done at the surfaces between adjacent disciplines’ (Carter, 1998). Acknowledging interdisciplinarity as a potential site of ambivalence, tension or a fertile ground for exploration and experimentation, International artists in this exhibition respond to this provocation.

The hybrid exhibition includes works of differing materials, scale and dimensions across installation, sculpture, sound, moving image, digital and post-digital media. Adjacent to the physical exhibition, an online companion space shares an extended range of works, in parallel to a series of informal artist talks. A digital catalogue, introduced by Dr Véronique Chance, marks the exhibition and encourages an ongoing conversation.
