the centre cannot hold (ii)

The Centre Cannot Hold (II) explores the materiality of disposable and mass-produced materials as a structural framing possibility for an image, revealing its illusive qualities as a representation of reality.

The light is inexpensive and shows its wires, and the work is positioned to face away from us, creating its own space that must be entered to view it. Using mirror veneer, a cheap material that reveals insubstantiality when you get close to it, the work itself is also very light, evoking a sensation of a package holiday that doesn't live up to its promise.  The selected cut of the images chosen comment on the curated instagram feed as an incomplete story.

The title of the work refers to W.B.Yeats poem 'The Second Coming', in particular making reference to the widening gyre - a circular motion /  repetition.

Nevertheless - collective exhibition, Atelier Concorde, Lisbon (2019)

the less, the lens, the lenses,
never let the lenses, never let the lens ever let the less.

"For me, curating is a film, or a piece of theater. A found footage film or a theater of objects, to be more fair. This exhibition is based upon both possibilities. Nevertheless, it is more or less a strategy meant to dialogue within the plot enacted by the market. Easily, we can say that between the product placement in film and the prop made for the stage there is no way out of the marketization."
